Continuous glucose monitoring with Dexcom means seeing your actual blood sugar level on your smartphone screen every 5 minutes, without finger pricks. But to get the sensor working, you need the app—and that’s where the problem lies: Dexcom apps aren’t available in the Ukrainian App Store. There is a UK App Store—and that’s the only option for our sensors.
In short:
- Identify your sensor (G6, G7, or One+) and find the appropriate link in the table below
- Temporarily change your Apple ID to a UK one only in the “Media & Purchases” section
- Install the app using the direct link to the UK App Store
- Switch back to your primary Apple ID—the app will remain and continue to work
Which app is right for you
There is a separate app for each Dexcom sensor. They are not interchangeable.
| Sensor | App | Link to the UK App Store |
|---|---|---|
| Dexcom G6 | Dexcom G6 mmol/L | Download |
| Dexcom G7 | Dexcom G7 | Download |
| Dexcom One+ | Dexcom ONE+ | Download |
The sensor model is listed on the packaging and on the device itself—check it before proceeding with the setup.
Why install the app at all?
A sensor without the app is just a plastic piece on your shoulder. It’s the app that turns its signal into understandable numbers: your current glucose level in mmol/L, a trend arrow, a 3–24-hour graph, and notifications about critical values. For people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, this means fewer finger pricks, a faster response to blood sugar fluctuations, and data for their doctor via Dexcom Clarity.
Why these apps cannot be downloaded directly in Ukraine
Dexcom releases separate versions of its apps for different markets—the UK, Ireland, Germany, and so on. There is currently no official version for Ukraine in the App Store, so a search will yield no results. However, the sensors we sell on goodsugar.com.ua are UK versions and work only with the UK versions of the apps.
The solution is to temporarily switch your Apple ID to a UK account in the “Media & Purchases” section, download the app, and then switch back to your main account. This is a common workaround for region-restricted medical apps.
What you’ll need
- An iPhone with Bluetooth (supported on most models from the iPhone 7 and newer) and the latest version of iOS
- A stable internet connection
- A UK Apple ID—only for the “Media & Purchases” section, not for your main account
- The same phone that the person with the sensor will be carrying—the pairing is done via Bluetooth to that specific device
Options for obtaining a UK Apple ID
1. Change the region of your Apple ID to the United Kingdom.
Drawback: If you have active subscriptions, you’ll need to cancel them first and wait for them to expire.
2. Create a separate new Apple ID with the United Kingdom region, temporarily switch to it only in “Media & Purchases,” download the app, then switch back to your main account.
✅ The safest option—only you have access to the account.
3. Use an Apple ID from GoodSugar. If you’re unable to create your own UK Apple ID, we can provide temporary access to ours. This access is used exclusively in the “Media & Purchases” section—a separate settings section that does not grant access to email, iCloud, photos, or any personal data. Your own iCloud password is never entered anywhere here. After installing the app, simply sign out of the provided Apple ID in this section and sign back in with your primary account.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap your name / Apple ID at the top of the screen
- Scroll down → “Media & Purchases”
- Tap “Sign Out”—make sure to do this from this section, not from your main Apple ID, so you don’t lose your contacts, photos, and data from iCloud
- Confirm that you want to sign out
- Open “Media & Purchases” again
- Select “Use a Different Apple ID”
- Enter the email address and password for your UK Apple ID
- Confirm two-factor authentication if prompted
- Go to the direct link for your app in the UK App Store:
- Dexcom G6: apps.apple.com/gb/app/dexcom-g6-mmol-l
- Dexcom G7: apps.apple.com/gb/app/dexcom-g7
- Dexcom One+: apps.apple.com/gb/app/dexcom-one
- Download and install the app
- Go back to Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases → Sign Out, then sign back in with your primary account
The app will remain installed and will work regardless of your App Store account.
Launching the app for the first time
After installation, open the app and complete the registration:
- Sign up or sign in to an existing Dexcom account
- When selecting a country, choose United Kingdom
- Units of measurement: set to mmol/L
- Allow Bluetooth access—the sensor won’t connect without it
- Activate the sensor and wait for it to warm up
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Dexcom without a UK Apple ID after installation?
Yes. After the initial setup and sensor activation, the app works on your main account without any restrictions.
Is it safe to enter the GoodSugar Apple ID in the “Media & Purchases” section?
This section is isolated from iCloud, email, and personal data. Your photos, contacts, and data remain unaffected—access is limited to the App Store for downloading apps.
Do these instructions apply to Android?
No, these instructions are for iPhone only. For Android, see the separate guide.
Does Dexcom support the Apple Watch?
Yes. Dexcom G6, G7, and One+ display glucose levels directly on the Apple Watch—no extra setup required, automatically after activation.
How long does it take for the sensor to warm up?
G6 — 2 hours. G7 — 30 minutes. One+ — 30 minutes. Readings won’t be displayed during this time—this is normal.
